Paula Sugarman - Owner/Creative Director

Paula graduated from Art Center College of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. She has over 25 years of professional experience in the field. She was lead designer at a Sacramento firm for fifteen years, where she designed logos, annual reports and marketing materials for clients such as Catholic Healthcare West, KVIE Public Television, Blue Diamond Almond Growers, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, NorthBay Healthcare, Farmers’ Rice Cooperative and Bio-Rad Laboratories.

Ms. Sugarman acts as client contact for most of the firm’s large clients, yet still finds time to get her fingers on every project ... much to the consternation of her able design team.

She has won many design awards from various organizations such as The Healthcare Marketing Association, The International Association of Business Communicators, The International Typographers Association, The Sacramento Advertising Club and The American Advertising Club. Her work has been published in Print Magazine and Communication Arts Magazine.

Paula enjoys: spending time with her family, creating found object art, painting and playing Rock Band with her husband and son.

Jodi Keer

Jodi has a degree in Visual Communication (Graphic Design) from California State University, Chico. She has 12 years of design experience and has been with Sugarman Design since 2001. As a lead designer, Jodi takes a hands-on approach, participating in every aspect of a project, from conception to completion. Award: 2005 Beverage Packaging Award for Wholesoy Smoothies.

Jodi enjoys: a good laugh, family time, whitewater kayaking, typography, and bringing designs to life.

Jennifer Hill

Jennifer has a Bachelor of Fina Arts with a specialization in illustration from California State University, Long Beach. She has 20 years of design experience. Prior to joining Sugarman Design in 2004, she worked as art director and lead designer for Java City's Corporate Design Studio for three years. There she worked on such projects as design of corporate branding, corporate program brochures, and café signage. Her experience in design agency and in-house studio work gives her a unique, objective perspective on projects and their solutions. Awards: Addy awards for Bogart, Cheapskate and the Trumpette catalog.

Jennifer enjoys: spending time with family, martial arts, and helping her husband on their competitive barbecue team.

Kelly Tanner

Kelly manages behind the scenes support for our creative efforts. It is her cheerful voice you will first hear when you call us. She keeps the team organized, on schedule and supplied with iced tea and cookies so we can keep the creative juices flowing. Her skills in proofreading and checking for consistency are invaluable.

Kelly enjoys: watching her 3 boys play baseball, and a little karaoke now and then.

About Us

Sugarman Design was established in 1999 and has been going gangbusters ever since. Located in an eclectic little village just outside of Sacramento, California, we reside at the crossroads of new technology and classic old town charm.

Our team is comprised of four designers and production artists and a highly responsive support team. Specializing in brand identity and logo design, our clients range from national accounts to emerging businesses of all kinds.

Our work has won many awards across the country. However, our greatest reward comes from increased sales and brand recognition for our clients. A successful design solution is the result of collaboration between client and designer. In our process, we become a part of your marketing team. It is this partnership, based on the strengths of both parties, which yields the most effective results.

Rather than establishing one defining studio style, our diversified talents offer a wide variety of concepts and design approaches. We begin each project with a clean slate and open mind so that our solutions are tailored to your specific needs.

Creativity is not
the finding of a thing, but the making of something out of it after
it is found. - James Russell Lowell
